To provide the scientific temperament among the young minds of Sitapur and nearby areas, Sacred Heart Degree College was established in 1998 and since its birth, the Department of Physics has been an integral part of the college. From the beginning, the department is involved in graduate teaching. As per NEP - 2020 the course offered by the department is B.Sc. (Mathematics Group). As per University norms, this course runs on a semester scheme. The Department of Physics consists of qualified, experienced and dedicated faculty members. At present, there are two qualified faculty members in the department. The faculty members regularly attend Orientation Programmes, Refresher Courses, Faculty Development programmes and teachers training programmes. They also encourage the students to participate in the knowledge oriented programmes . The online classes are conducted regularly in the department as per NEP 2020 guidelines. During the pandemic period successful online classes were run by the department.

To understand subject more effectively, Power Point are prepared and presented by students in the department. In this program they learn how the complicated topics can be represented in effective and interesting way.

In the department, there are 04 well equipped laboratories

• One dark room for optics experiments
• One lab for B.Sc. I year students
• One Lab for B.Sc. II year & B.Sc. III year students
• One Lab for B.Sc. III year students

The goal of the department is to nurture young talents, to focus on standards, assessments and outcomes and to ensure that all students learn in a more powerful way.

Departmental Activities

1.Career guidance To provide career guidance physics department conducts webinar. In the webinar popular topics like Career Talk: Career options after Graduation were covered. In this webinar nearby inter college students participated 2.Webinar: On the occasion of National Science Day, B.Sc. ( Maths group) students and faculty members participated in webinar on Scholarship and Exchange programmes for UG and PG students in India and abroad conducted by Physics Department, Sacred Heart College, Thevara, kochhi, Kerala. 3. Invited Lecture: In the department Invited Lectures were conducted. 4.Awareness Programmes: In the department awareness programmes are conducted. The inter college students (Jeevan Jyoti Convent School , khairabad, Sitapur) visited physics laboratories. The faculty members of the department visited nearby colleges like Study Point Inter College, khairabad Sitapur to create awareness of science and to popularize science among students.
