Student Leadership Development Policy

At Sacred Heart Degree College, the students are given ample opportunities for leadership development through various participatory leadership fora.

Gender: In any of these gender concerns are addressed usually by assuring representation of the mainstream genders – male and female (Gender A & B respectively). If there are other genders (C)being present, based on their numbers a representative is arranged batch wise/department wise/building wise; or if they are so very few in number giving all possible among them a representation in the said bodies. However, there will be no barrier for a person of gender C to contest any of the posts, based on the person’s choice to contest from one of the mainstream pools, with regular norms of election being applicable.

  1. Student Parliament

Each of the classes elects two representatives for their class for an academic year – one each of gender A & B.

This parliament meets at least once in a semester, usually at the beginning of it, with the Principal, Vice Principal, Student Adviser and IQAC coordinator to assess the student aspirations and requirements for academic and all round personal growth.

  2. Student Council:

functions as the executive body on behalf of the students. Positions to the executive committee are filled through direct election by the whole college:

    • Any student on the rolls, having 50% attendance, and having paid the fees, has voting right.

    • The Student Council consists of:

      President

2 Vice Presidents (Female & male)

      General Secretary

      Joint Secretary:

If the general secretary belongs to gender A, then the person gender B (or C, if present and contesting)pooling the highest number of votes shall be declared the Joint Secretary. If there are no contestants from both the genders, whoever pooling the second highest number of votes shall be declared elected.

      General Captain

Vice Captain (The norms for the General Secretary election shall apply) If a mainstream gender is not adequately represented (3 of the 7 positions), Principal is authorised to nominate a maximum of 2 people to the Student Council from that gender.
